Breaking Through the Noise: Rethinking Messaging in Today's Political Landscape
RIGHT NOW - IT'S SHOWING NOT TELLING
We have a great deal to talk about this week around “Messaging” - its relationship to “grassroots organizing” and “relational organizing.”
Democracy.
Fragile foundation.
Yet, ever essential.
A constant struggle.
Time to put my history teacher hat on! Democracy has been a cornerstone of society for centuries. Its roots can be traced back to ancient Greece, where the term itself was born. Philosophers like Socrates and Plato debated its merits and flaws. Fast forward to the Enlightenment, where thinkers such as John Locke and Montesquieu championed the rights of individuals and separation of powers. Their ideas paved the way for modern democratic systems.
In the United States, democracy was seen as a revolutionary concept. The founding fathers envisioned a government that was of the people, by the people, and for the people. Yet, as history unfolded, it became evident that democracy is not merely a system of governance; it is a living, breathing entity that requires constant nurturing and vigilance. The civil rights movement, women's suffrage, and more recent movements for social justice remind us that democracy is an ongoing battle against oppression and inequality.
Why does democracy matter today?
In a world increasingly dominated by powerful elites, the relevance of democracy is more pronounced than ever. Citizens must grapple with the idea that their voices matter. As one expert noted, “The future is made out of the decisions that we take collectively.” This emphasizes the power of collective action and the need for engagement in democratic processes.
Democracy is not just a political system; it’s a cultural framework. It shapes our values and defines our interactions. When people feel disconnected from their government, apathy can set in. This disconnect can lead to a dangerous cycle where the very institutions meant to protect our rights become tools of oppression.
Citizens must recognize that their engagement matters in a democracy. Every phone call to a representative, every conversation with a neighbor, can spark change. As we navigate this complex landscape, it’s essential to remember that the power resides with we the people.
Resistance, Refusal, and Ridicule!
Real change starts at the community level. Grassroots organizing is what is going to reshape our future. We need to resist authoritarianism as a collective. The question is being asked - HOW. Last month during a conversation with Anat Shenker-Osorio and
of the - Anat gave us our marching orders. Showing not telling of our refusal of the new authoritarian regime under Trump and Musk.“I would argue that the most important thing to get airtime for in this moment is what we were saying earlier, showing not telling that actually Americans think that this is a bunch of fucking bullshit.” ~ @Anat
And HOOSIERS SHOWED UP THIS WEEKEND!!
➡️ Protesters voice frustrations, call for accountability at ‘Where is Rudy?’ rally
Hoosier voters in the 2nd District came together and delivered a clear message: where is Congressman Rudy Yakym?
➡️ Hundreds protest in “frustration” against Indiana Rep. Mark Messmer
Hoosiers from South West Indiana, including Democrats in Vanderburgh, Knox, Posey, and Warrick counties came together to make their voices heard and demand that U.S. Representative Mark Messmer hold a public town hall for his constituents.
➡️ Senator Jim Bank’s public response to a request for a town hall.

📆 Mark your calendar for this Friday. If you live in a “rigged” state - that is us Indiana - and religion is working its way into the political conversation and GOP laws at the statehouse - I am sure you have questions. I know I did for sure. This is a conversation not to me missed!
will talk about the Seven Mountain Mandate and why far-right American evangelicals have become so interested in controlling federal, state, and local government - this includes - Education!➡️ ➡️ REGISTER HERE
Anat was with Anand last Thursday and said that we must reframe “deportation”. Venezuelans were abducted and trafficked by the regime—-there was not due process so it was not deportation. Banks dismissed and mocked his constituents as he went awol from the scores of town halls across the state. Don’t rebut using their words!
