Voter engagement in Indiana is at a historic low, with the state ranking last in the country for voter turnout. This decline is not due to voters switching political affiliations but rather to widespread voter apathy, lack of viable candidates, and structural barriers within the Democratic Party’s support system.

Voters feel powerless in a predominantly red state, and the absence of viable local candidates reinforces disengagement. The Indiana Democratic Party & the DNC prioritizes “winnable” races, leaving many districts uncontested and further suppressing turnout. But that is changing under new leadership!

To reverse this trend, Indiana needs a bottom-up strategy that recruits, trains, and funds candidates in every district while providing clear pathways for disengaged voters to take meaningful action.
